What is a Money Bowl?

A money bowl is a long-term prosperity working that uses a bowl or similar open-top vessel. The idea is that you are encouraging new finances to flow into your life, represented as you place things into the bowl, and then allowing yourself to utilize those finances, which is represented by moving things out of the bowl.

This is why we are choosing to use a bowl as our vessel for this spell, to allow for constant movement and change in this area of your life. Something like a jar is sealed and doesn’t allow the contents to escape, and we don’t want our finances to be stagnant either! Your money bowl can also be specialized for bringing in income from specific sources, or to be able to afford specific thing, the possibilities are endless! It can adapt to your needs as you grow and change in your life and your practice.

How to Make a Money Bowl

To make a money bowl for yourself, first choose your vessel. You can use any open-top container that works for you! I like using green or gold bowls for my money bowls but you can use whatever you feel called to use for your working.

Next gather up some materials that represent prosperity, finances, and wealth. This can be whatever represents money, wealth, abundance, or prosperity to you! Be creative with it, and put in what feels right! The most important thing regarding the bowl is that everything you are placing here means money to you in some way, shape, or form. You are essentially feeding the bowl these things so that it will in turn draw or attract income into your life. In the following section I will be giving you some ideas for items, crystals, herbs, and more that are great additions to any money bowl.

How to Upkeep & Refresh your Money Bowl

Money bowls and other long-term workings need an extra feed of energy every so often to keep the spell active and working. As I’ve mentioned above, the money bowl is meant to be a constant flow of items and movement, in and out to mimic your flow of income (as you make and spend money). So upkeeping your bowl can be as simple or complex as you’d like!

Minimal Maintenance

Personally I like to add my pocket change or any loose coins as I find them throughout my day. I might also add some spare dollars if I have some extra lying around. In order to prevent overloading your bowl with change, you will also need to take money out of the bowl in order to spend it. Don’t be afraid of taking things out of the bowl, remember that money is meant to be spent! Not hoarded! If I take some money out of the bowl to buy a couple items, I might then put the paper receipt back into the bowl to further represent the exchange of money to and from myself.

If you don’t have anything physical to place in the bowl, or anything to remove from the bowl, stir the contents of the bowl in a clock-wise direction to draw in new abundance.

Anointing the bowl or the contents of the bowl with a prosperity oil is also a great (and easy!) way to infuse some extra money-drawing energies into the working. You can also use the bowl to charge and hold sigils or petitions that are based around abundance, prosperity, or achieving your financial goals.

Larger Spell Refresh

Every couple of weeks or so, I might do a large candle working to help reinvigorate the bowl and keep it fresh and magickally strengthened. This is a personal choice as I love candle magick, and is absolutely not required, however I find that it often gives the bowl a pretty significant boost for a period of time after performing this bit of extra work! Below is a little walk-through of how I do the candle magick portion of my money bowl, however if you’d prefer to see it yourself check out my video!

Money Bowl Candle Spell

  1. Use a green or white candle
  2. Carve any sigils or petitions into your candle that you may have or want to use
  3. Dress the candle with either a charged prosperity oil, charged water, or olive oil. When doing this it’s important to work from the top of the candle down towards you, bringing the wealth in.
  4. Choose some prosperity herbs from the list above (my favorites are cinnamon, basil, and nutmeg), charge them by stirring them together clockwise with intention, and then roll the candle in the herbs once again moving towards you to draw in wealth.
  5. Place the candle in a safe holder or container for burning.
  6. Burn near your money bowl or on a money altar while meditating or visualizing what your life will be like with those extra dollars in your pocket!

I’ve included some links to the items I’ve mentioned above for ease if you’d like to incorporate them into your craft or just need a restock!
